About the project

It began back in the distant 2000s. Soviet crowncaps were poor represented in collections, without any systematic approach. It seemed like there were an infinite number of variations of stamps, given their production dates. Having about a hundred Soviet crowncaps in my collection at the time, I created a section on my website where I began to organize them. I couldn't shake the idea of creating something more comprehensive, of combining data from different collections. That's how this website came to be. Over the years, it has evolved, and this is now its fourth version. The versions have varied greatly, essentially creating a new website each time.

One of the most important goals of this project is to attract like-minded people to directly contribute to the catalog . As the well-known Russian proverb goes: "Two heads are better than one." By the time crowncaps.su launched, I had already done quite a bit of work, mostly on embossed crowncaps. I used my own collection as a base, simply because I believe the images I have are the highest quality available online, and also have a consistent appearance.

I used the word "work" several times above. Many will agree with me; we enjoy what we do, despite the fact that the catalog takes up a tremendous amount of time. I'd like to think there's some distant goal we're all striving for, some more complete and detailed catalog. Most likely, there isn't, because improvement is endless: new varieties will inevitably emerge, and better-quality images will appear. In short, I'd like to thank the people who, with their enthusiasm, are helping to push the project forward!
